Media Partners

The Press Information Department (PID) is the government’s principal media communications arm, working since 1947 as part of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting​pid.gov.pk. PID acts as an official source of news regarding government policies, decisions, and developments, ensuring timely dissemination of information to the public through print, electronic, and digital media​pid.gov.pk. Headed by the Principal Information Officer (PIO), it operates round-the-clock to publicize government initiatives and also to inform the government about public reactions and media feedback on its policies​pid.gov.pk.
  • Formation: Established at Pakistan’s independence in 1947 with the mission to provide authentic and prompt information to the public on behalf of the government​pid.gov.pk.
  • Primary Responsibilities: PID releases official press releases, statements, and announcements to the media, serving as the authoritative source on government news​pid.gov.pk. It facilitates press conferences and briefings for government officials and ministers, coordinating with journalists for coverage.
  • Key Functions: Provides media coverage and facilitation for all government activities and events, including arranging media access and publicity​pid.gov.pk. It monitors media outlets nationwide and gathers public feedback, reporting to the government on press coverage and public opinion trends​pid.gov.pk.
  • Additional Roles: PID manages the Central Media List (accreditation of journalists/media organizations for official information) and oversees government advertising in print and electronic media​pid.gov.pk. It also maintains archives, conducts research and reference services on news developments, and ensures that factual, vetted information reaches citizens to counter misinformation.
